This part of IEC EN 62642 defines passive surface-mounted glass break detectors installed in buildings and provides safety ratings from 1 to 4, dedicated or non-specific wired or wireless detectors, and uses environmental classes I to IV. This International Standard does not contain requirements for passive surface mount glass break detectors intended for outdoor use.
Additional functions to the mandatory functions specified in this standard may be included in the detector, provided that they do not adversely affect the correct operation of the mandatory functions.
The detector will not generate an intrusion signal or message when a wide frequency band (eg branches of a tree moving towards a window) is applied simultaneously near a glass break frequency.
This test will verify detection performance by cutting glass using a standard glass cutter in different glass types and sizes based on supported conditions claimed by the manufacturer.
Grade 3 and 4 powered detectors with processing capabilities must provide an indication in the detector to indicate when an intrusion signal or message has been generated. Self-powered detectors (eg detectors based on energy from glass breakage) do not require such an indication.
