This International Standard does not apply to miter saws intended to cut other metals such as magnesium, steel and iron. This standard does not apply to miter saws with automatic feeder.

Portable saws intended to cut ferrous metals will be covered by a future part of IEC EN 62841-3. This standard does not apply to saws designed for use with abrasive wheels. Portable tools designed for use with abrasive wheels are covered by IEC EN 62841-3-10.

Miter saws should be marked in a visible place on the tool near the saw blade, for example on the saw blade guard, with the direction of rotation of the spindle indicated by a raised or recessed arrow or by any other means.

For link-activated protection, the movement of the lower guard must be linked to or controlled by the movement of the saw unit. The downward plunging action of the saw unit movement will cause the opening impact of the lower guard. However, provided that this additional movement is self-restoring, the bottom guard will be free to open further regardless of the connection.
