This standard applies to equipment intended to reliably measure oxygen concentration to provide an indication, alarm or other output function whose purpose is to warn of a potential hazard and in some cases to initiate automatic or manual protection.
This standard applies to equipment, including integrated sampling systems of aspirated equipment, intended for use in commercial, industrial and non-residential security applications. This standard does not apply to external sampling systems or laboratory or scientific type equipment or medical equipment or equipment used solely for process monitoring or control purposes.
For equipment used to detect the presence of multiple gases, this standard only applies to oxygen measurement. This standard also applies to equipment using optical principles (eg TDLAS) where the optical transmitter and receiver or optical transceiver (ie combined transmitter and receiver) and a suitable reflector are not placed in a common housing.
