EN 50125-2 Railway Applications - Environmental Requirements for Equipment - Part 2: Standard Test for Fixed Electrical Installations

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 50125-2 testing. This European standard takes into account environmental conditions in Europe. This European Standard deals with environmental impacts on fixed electrical installations for traction power supply and equipment required to operate a railway outdoors.

EN 50125-2 Railway Applications - Environmental Requirements for Equipment - Part 2: Standard Test for Fixed Electrical Installations

  • In closed areas;
  • In tunnels;
  • In enclosures placed in the above areas.

Escalators, elevators, fire protection, tunnel and platform lighting, ticket machines, ventilation systems and non-essential functions are not included. Such effects include altitude, temperature and humidity, air movement, rain, snow, hail, ice, sand, solar radiation, lightning, pollution, vibration, shocks, and EMC.

This standard does not specify testing requirements for equipment. In the case of environmental conditions not covered by the standard, the data to be adopted for a specific project should be clearly stated when preparing the specification. This standard is not intended to apply to cranes, underground mine installations, cable cars and funicular railways. Nuclear radiation is excluded. Signaling and telecommunication systems are not considered in this standard. Fixed installed signaling and telecommunication equipment shall comply with EN 50125-3.

The buyer shall clearly indicate the class to be considered in the specification. Otherwise, the class specified in the product standard, if any, will apply. Where no other specifications are specified, the normal terms in this standard will be used. Installations shall operate or be able to operate under all specified conditions.

Environmental conditions are taken into account for normal operation. More severe conditions may be specified so that the equipment can withstand damage when not in operation. An example of such a situation would be wind speed that does not destroy the overhead contact line, but is high enough to cause the wires to come loose.

The severity levels indicated are those that are less likely to be exceeded. All values stated are maximum or minimum limits. These values are achievable, but do not occur permanently. Depending on the situation, there are different frequencies of occurrence associated with a certain period of time. Such occurrence frequencies are not included in this standard, but should be considered for any environmental parameter if relevant.
