The EN 60811 series specifies test methods to be used to test non-metallic materials of all types of cables. These test methods are intended to be referenced in standards for cable construction and cable materials.

All tests should be performed at least 16 hours after extrusion or, if applicable, crosslinking of the coating compounds.

The test pieces should be immersed in the oil bath, heated to the pre-specified test temperature, and kept in the oil for the specified time.

After the specified time, the test pieces should be removed from the oil, lightly blotted to remove excess oil, and suspended in air at ambient temperature for at least 16 hours, but not more than 24 hours, unless otherwise specified on the relevant cable. After this time, excess oil will be removed by lightly touching the test pieces.
