The sample should consist of a contact or terminal crimped into a conductor. This should be done in accordance with the relevant detail specification and the instrument specifications given here. If the sample has a cable insulation support or other clamping device that is not part of the conductor crimp, it must be rendered inoperative so that it has no effect on the test.
A tensile testing machine with the relevant fasteners in accordance with the test procedure detailed here will be required.
The specimen should be secured in the jaws of a tensile testing machine so that the curved barrel of the specimen is not damaged or otherwise affected by the jaws. Fixation of the specimen shall be such that the tensile load is applied axially to the crimp joint under test.
Moving at a speed between 25 and 50 mm/min, the test machine head must apply tension to the sample until the conductor is pulled from the crimped barrel or wire or the sample breaks.
