IEC EN 60598-2-17 Luminaires - Part 2-17: Special Requirements - Stage Lighting - Luminaires Test for Television and Film Studios

IEC EN 60598-2-17 is an international standard that sets safety requirements for portable hand lamps used in professional and industrial settings. The standard covers a number of safety features, including shock protection, construction and design requirements, and test procedures. It is published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and is part of the IEC EN 60598 series of standards for lighting equipment.

The design of the luminaire shall be such that it is not possible to attach a lamp to a "live" socket of the luminaire. This requirement does not apply to luminaires for professional use only. If the operating voltage calculated according to the equation (for example, in luminaires with igniter) exceeds 1000 V, the luminaire can only be opened with the help of a tool or there will be an automatic switch in the armature.

If there is a hanger, the bearing parts of the hanger will have the capacity to carry six times the weight of the luminaire without any appreciable deformation and will be made of non-combustible materials such as steel or equivalent. The parts of the hanger that carry the weight of the fixture will be capable of carrying six times the weight of the fixture without permanent deformation.

A secondary hanger shall be provided for the luminaire, except where the luminaire is arranged for floor mounting or is designed for handheld use. This secondary suspension must be designed and mounted in such a way that no part of the armature can fall, even if the primary suspension fails.
