IEC EN 60794-2-50 Fiber Optic Cables - Part 2-50: Indoor Cables - Family Specification for Simplex and Duplex Cables for Use in Terminated Cable Assemblies

EUROLAB, together with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60794-2-50 test. IEC EN 60794-2-50 specifies requirements for unidirectional and duplex fiber optic cables for use in terminated cable assemblies or for termination with optical fiber passive components.

IEC EN 60794-2-50 Fiber Optic Cables - Part 2-50: Indoor Cables - Family Specification for Simplex and Duplex Cables for Use in Terminated Cable Assemblies

In addition to the structural requirements in IEC EN 60794-2, the following applies to unidirectional and duplex indoor cables for use in terminated cable assemblies. It is not the purpose of this standard to specify the finished terminated cable assembly complete with terminations. The cable must be designed and manufactured for an estimated 15-year operational life. The materials in the cable will not pose a health hazard within the scope of its intended use. There will be no fiber splice in the delivery length. It will be possible to identify each fiber along the cable length.

This test method is designed to measure the force required to remove the cable sheath. It can be applied to round unidirectional and round duplex fiber optic cables for use in patch cords or round single fiber elements or sub-elements of larger cables.

At one end of the sample, mark the wire at 50 mm and 53 mm distances from the tip. A circumferential cut is then made at the two marked points where the sheath section will be removed. A longitudinal cut is then made between the two peripheral cuts. Remove the sheath between the two cuts. If any damage is done to the cable core during sample preparation, that sample will be discarded.

The prepared end of the cable is inserted into the pulling apparatus mounted on the test rig. The opposite end of the sample is then mounted to the cable anchor at zero load. A controlled pull is then performed at the specified speed. Readings are taken to record the peak values of each test shot. The force required to remove the sheath from the cable core shall be in accordance with the values given in the detail specification.
