IEC EN 60947-4-1 Low Voltage Switchgear and Controller - Part 4-1: Electromechanical Contactors and Motor Starters

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60947-4-1 test. It is designed to be connected to distribution circuits, motor circuits and other load circuits with a rated voltage not exceeding 1000 V AC or 1500 V DC. This standard also specifies the evaluation procedure for electromechanical overload protection used in safety applications, such as the protection of an engine in an explosive atmosphere from the outside atmosphere.

IEC EN 60947-4-1 Low Voltage Switchgear and Controller - Part 4-1: Electromechanical Contactors and Motor Starters

This part of IEC EN 60947 applies to the following equipment:

  • Electromechanical contactors and starters, including motor protective switching device (MPSD);
  • Actuators of contactor relays;
  • Specially assigned contacts to the coil circuit of this contactor or this contactor relay;
  • Special accessories (eg special wiring, special latch accessory).

For circuit breakers and fused combination units used as short-circuit protection devices in combination starters and soft starters, the requirements of IEC EN 60947-2 and IEC EN 60947-3 respectively apply.

Star-delta starters are designed to start a three-phase motor in star connection, to ensure continuous operation in delta connection, to provide means to protect the motor and associated circuits against overloads, and to shut off the supply.

For rheostatic rotor starters, the rated stator operating voltage, when combined with the rated stator operating current, is a voltage value that determines the application of the stator circuit, including mechanical switching devices, and refers to their opening and closing capacities. In no case should the maximum rated operating voltage exceed the corresponding rated insulation voltage.

For rheostatic rotor starters, the value of the rated rotor operating voltage, when combined with the rated rotor operating current, is the value of the voltage that determines the application of the rotor circuit, including mechanical switching devices, and refers to the opening and closing capacities.
