IEC EN 60984 Live Working - Standard Test Method for Electrically Insulated Cuffs

Products designed and manufactured according to this standard contribute to the safety of users when used by competent persons in accordance with safe working methods and instructions for use. Unless otherwise stated, the term "sleeve" is used for "electrical insulation sleeve" in this standard.

The product covered by this standard may have an environmental impact at some or all stages of its life cycle. These effects can range from mild to significant, be short-term or long-term, and occur at a global, regional or local level.

Except for the declaration of disposal in the instructions for use, this standard does not contain requirements and test provisions for the manufacturers of the product or recommendations for environmental remediation to users of the product. However, we invite all parties involved in its design, manufacture, packaging, distribution, use, maintenance, repair, reuse, recovery and disposal to consider environmental considerations.

Cuffs will be manufactured from elastomer and produced in a seamless process. Holes provided in sleeves for strap or harness attachments shall have non-metallic reinforcement. The holes must match the fastening device of the sleeve harness and have a nominal diameter of 8 mm.

Both the inner and outer surfaces of the couplings must be free of harmful physical irregularities detectable by extensive testing and inspection. Harmful physical irregularities shall be defined as any feature that disrupts the smooth, smooth surface contour such as pinholes, cracks, bubbles, cuts, conductive embedded foreign matter, wrinkles, pinch marks, voids (entrapped air), prominent ripples, and prominent traces of mold.

Each pair of cuffs shall be packaged in a separate container or package of sufficient strength as reasonably practicable to adequately protect the cuffs from damage during transport, handling and storage in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
