EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62680-2-2 testing. This section describes important features of the Micro USB specification. The purpose of this section is not to present all the technical details about each major feature, but rather to highlight its presence. Where appropriate, this section refers to other parts of the standard where more details may be found.

IEC EN 62680-2-2 Universal Serial Bus Interfaces for Data and Power - Part 2-2: Micro USB Cables and Connectors Specification

USB has become a popular interface for exchanging data between mobile phone and portable devices. Many of these devices have shrunk so much that it has become impossible to use the standard USB components defined in the USB 2.0 specification. In addition, the durability requirements of the mobile phone and portable devices market exceed the capabilities of existing interconnects. Mobile Phones and other small portable devices are the largest market potential for USB, so this specification addresses this very large market while meeting all the requirements for electrical performance within the USB 2.0 specification.

The purpose of this standard is to define the requirements and specifications for a Micro USB connector that conforms to the USB 2.0 specification in terms of performance, physical size and shape while meeting the current and future needs of the mobile phone and portable device markets.

Cell phone and portable devices have become so thin that current Mini-USB doesn't quite fit the constraints of future designs. Additional requirements were also considered for a more robust connector whose durability exceeds 10.000 cycles and still meets the USB 2.0 specification for mechanical and electrical performance. Mini USB could not be replaced and remained backwards compatible with the existing connector as defined in the USB OTG specification.
