IPC was founded in 1957 as the Printed Circuit Institute and is today a global trade association that represents the electronics industry with a focus on design, PCB manufacture and electronics assembly. IPC has more than 3700 members, including Aerojet Rocketdyne, Rockwell Collins, Lockheed Martin Mission Systems & Training and Parker Hannifin Electronic Controls.
EUROLAB performs the following tests to make it compatible with many IPC specifications.
EUROLAB is an IPC testing laboratory experienced in testing electronic products at all levels. In the material level test, the printed circuit board (PCB) provides laminate, copper, solder mask, conformal coating, final coatings, soldering materials, adhesives, marking inks, components, printed circuit assembly (PCA) and full root cause failure analysis.
EUROLAB PCB specialists use IPC-6012 to evaluate the quality of Rigid PCBs, IPC-A-600 for Quality and Performance Specification for Rigid Printed Boards and Acceptability of Printed Boards. EUROLAB has all the resources and experience to discuss, develop, realize and interpret IPC competence and compliance.
Conform coating is applied to provide electronic circuits with a protective barrier against moisture and contamination and to provide electrical insulation. The most common features used for conformal coating testing are IPC-CC-830 and MIL-I-46058.
IPC-CC-830 is currently divided into three categories as shown in the table below. Column A test for competence, Column B test for competence maintenance and Column C test for quality compliance. MIL-I-46058 is divided into four categories: Proficiency, Group A, Group B and Group C. The test frequencies for each specification are summarized below.
TEST FREQUENCY | IPC-CC-830 | MIL-I-46058 |
Necessary | Column A, Proficiency Test | Proficiency Test |
Compulsory Every 2 Years | Column B, Storing Proficiency Test | Group C Test |
Compulsory Every Year | Not applicable | Group B test |
Required for Every Party | Column C, Compatibility Test | Group A Test |
Although the MIL-I-46058 document has been canceled for the new design since November 1998, the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) still maintains the Qualified Products List (QPL) for this document. Because the material is still purchased for the production of products and is built for old military contracts. EUROLAB is a DLA-approved testing laboratory for this specification and can provide a fully eligible coating qualification and compliance test, including filling out the required application form and helping to interact with DLA.
Although developed by IPC, there is currently no QPL for IPC-CC-830 qualified products. If you are responsible for supplier surveillance as a user, we recommend that you review your supplier's actual dated test reports to confirm the necessary tests have been completed.
EUROLAB offers test services to conform coating manufacturers and users, including basic failure analysis for adhesion, electricity, contamination and other problems.
