IEC EN 60974-7 Arc Welding Equipment - Part 7: Standard Test Method for Torches

IEC EN 60974-7 specifies safety and construction requirements for torches used for arc welding and related processes. This standard applies to manual, mechanically guided, air-cooled, liquid-cooled, motorized, roller, and fume evacuation torches.

All tests should be performed on the same new, fully assembled torch normally equipped with the supplied cable-hose assembly.

The sleeves are tightly wrapped with a metal foil. The cable hose assembly is placed in contact with a conductive surface along its entire length, such as wrapped around a metal cylinder or rolled onto a flat metal surface. The metal foil and the conductive surface are electrically connected.

The temperature should be measured at the hottest point in the handle area, normally held by the operator for manual torches. The temperature should be measured at the hottest point of the cable hose assembly. The temperature measuring device, handle and cable hose assembly must be protected from drafts and radiant heat. The torch clamping device used will not significantly affect the test result, for example through heat loss.

At continuous load (100% duty cycle) the ambient and torch temperature should be measured simultaneously for the last 10 minutes. For lower duty cycles, it should be measured in the middle of the load time during the last cycle.
