IEC EN 62148-16 covers the physical interface specifications of transmitter and receiver components for use with an LC connector interface. The purpose of this section of IEC EN 62148 is to sufficiently specify the physical requirements for an optical transmitter and receiver to ensure that transmitters and receivers conforming to this standard are mechanically interchangeable, both on the PCB and for any panel mounting requirement.
Compact optical subassembly (OSA) modules for 10 Gbit/s are used to convert electrical signals to optical signals and vice versa. This standard covers the physical interface for 10 Gbit/s compact OSA modules. These modules are designed for use with the LC fiber optic connector specified in IEC EN 61754-20 and are intended to be applied to XFP modules.
Components specified in the current standard must comply with appropriate requirements for electromagnetic compatibility (both emissions and immunity) depending on the particular use/environment in which they are intended to be installed or integrated. Guidance for the preparation of such EMC requirements is provided in IEC Guide 107. Guidance for electrostatic discharge (ESD) is currently under review.
The purpose of this standard is to adequately specify the physical requirements of a TOSA module to allow mechanical interchangeability of modules conforming to this specification for both PCB and any panel mounting requirements.
