IEC EN 62271 High Voltage Switchgear and Controller Alternating Current Switchgear and Controller

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62271 testing. This standard applies to indoor or outdoor installation and AC switching and control devices at service frequencies up to (inclusive) 60 Hz and rated voltages above 1000 V.

IEC EN 62271 High Voltage Switchgear and Controller Alternating Current Switchgear and Controller

  • Alternative current;
  • rated voltages above 1 kV and up to (including) 52 kV;
  • Service frequencies up to and including 60 Hz;
  • Indoor and outdoor installation.

The assembly may include air-insulated or liquid-filled chambers.

This standard includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

  • Substance numbering in accordance with IEC 62271‑1:2017, including the adoption of these standard sub-substance names;
  • Specific definitions for "in service", "normal operating condition" and "normal use" are included in this standard;
  • Internal arc testing on pole-mounted switchgear has been omitted from this document as it is now covered by the special standard IEC 62271‑214:2019;
  • A more precise description of the ground circuit is given by including ratings and test requirements;
  • The number of mechanical tests on interlocks for type testing is reduced; a more precise description of the forces to be applied during type testing is given;
  • Resistance measurement in the main circuit is required only before continuous current tests and is no longer necessary after this continuous current test. The reason for this deletion is that this measured resistance means nothing; a new temperature rise test will not give new information, since the temperature rise test has just finished;
  • Reference is made to IEC 62271-100:2021, IEC 62271-103:2021, IEC 62271-105:2021 and IEC 62271-106:2021;
  • IEC 62271‑107:2019 and IEC IEEE 62271‑37‑013:2015 are also considered in 7.101.2;
  • A more precise description of the LSC category is given by including an explanatory flowchart;
  • Samples not covered by IAC testing are transferred from Article 6 to 9.103;
  • The term "assembly" is defined in Clause 3 and is used interchangeably in this document with "metal-enclosed switchgear and controller";
  • The term "metallic" is replaced with "metal" where appropriate;
  • 6.105 is now covered by 7.7;
  • The 4 s rule was introduced for Criterion 1 during IAC tests for particles glowing against hot gases as the ignition cause.
