EN 1127-1 Explosive Atmospheres - Test for Basic Concepts and Methodology

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 1127-1 testing. This standard specifies methods for the identification and assessment of hazardous explosive situations, and appropriate design and construction measures for the necessary safety.

EN 1127-1 Explosive Atmospheres - Test for Basic Concepts and Methodology

This is achieved by:

  • Risk assessment;
  • Risk reduction.

The safety of equipment, protective systems and components can be achieved by eliminating hazards and/or limiting risk, namely:

  • Appropriate design (without the use of protection);
  • Protection;
  • Usage information;
  • Other preventive measures.

The preventive and protective measures described in this document will not provide the required level of safety unless equipment, protective systems and components are operated, installed and maintained within their intended use.

This document specifies general design and construction methods to assist designers and manufacturers in ensuring explosion safety in the design of equipment, protective systems, and components.

This document applies to all equipment, protective systems and components intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres under atmospheric conditions. These atmospheres may result from flammable/flammable substances handled, used or released by equipment, protective systems and components, or materials near equipment, protective systems and components, and/or materials of construction of the equipment, protective systems.

This document applies to equipment, protective systems and components at all stages of its use.

This document is valid only for equipment group II intended for use in places other than underground parts of mines and parts of surface installations of such mines where there is danger of coal and/or combustible dust.

This document does not apply to:

  • Medical devices intended for use in a medical setting;
  • Equipment, protective systems and components where the explosion hazard arises only from the presence of explosive substances or unstable chemicals;
  • Equipment, protective systems and components where an explosion may occur if substances react with oxidants other than atmospheric oxygen or other hazardous reactions or outside atmospheric conditions;
  • Equipment intended for use in domestic and non-commercial environments where potentially explosive atmospheres may only rarely occur as a result of accidental leakage of fuel gas;
  • personal protective equipment under Regulation 2016/425 (EU);
  • Offshore vessels and mobile offshore units with equipment on such vessels or units;
  • Means of transport, i.e. vehicles and trailers intended solely for the transport of passengers by air or road, rail or water networks, as well as means of transport, as long as such vehicles are designed to transport goods by air, road or rail networks or water; vehicles intended for use in a potentially explosive atmosphere shall not be excluded;
  • The design and construction of systems incorporating desirable, controlled combustion processes, unless they can act as a source of ignition in potentially explosive atmospheres.
