EN 50289-1-5 Communication Cables, Part 1-5: Electrical Test Methods, Standard Test Method for Capacitance

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 50289-1-5 standard. EN 50289 part 1-5 details test methods for determining the capacitance characteristics of finished cables used in analog and digital communication systems.

EN 50289-1-5 Communication Cables, Part 1-5: Electrical Test Methods, Standard Test Method for Capacitance

Measurement of mutual capacitance and capacitance imbalance ac to earth is in the frequency range from 500 Hz to 2 kHz. Three terminal capacitance bridges will be used for balanced conditions and two terminal capacitance bridges for unbalanced conditions to measure the mutual capacitance.

The cable under test (CUT) shall have a minimum length of 100 m and both ends of the CUT shall be prepared to prevent leakage capacitance.

The test should be performed on the CUT after the continuity or conductor resistance test. The measuring equipment must be calibrated to the manufacturer's specification. Test leads must be included in the calibration procedure.

The measuring voltage must be applied to a quad pair or side with all other conductors and the shields, if any, are connected to ground.
