This standard applies to new inductive voltage transformers for use with electrical measuring instruments and electrical protective devices at frequencies from 15 to 100 Hz.
This standard mainly covers transformers with separate windings as well as auto-transformers. Replaces IEC EN 60186 plus amendments 1 and 2 for inductive voltage transformers only. IEC EN 60186 remains in force for capacitive voltage transformers.
All transformers must be suitable for measurement use, but some may be suitable for additional protection use. Transformers used for both measuring and protection purposes shall comply with all clauses of this standard.
The standard values of the primary rated voltage of three-phase transformers and single-phase transformers used between lines in a single-phase system or in a three-phase system should be one of the rated system voltage values specified in this Regulation as usual values.
The standard values of the rated primary voltage of a single-phase transformer connected between a line of a three-phase system and earth or between a system neutral point and earth shall be 1/√3 times the rated system voltage values.
Additionally, if specified, the primary winding must also be able to withstand a shear lightning impulse voltage whose peak is equal to 115% of the full lightning impulse voltage.
