IEC EN 60216-5 Electrical Insulating Materials - Determining the Relative Temperature Index (RTI) of an Insulation Material

Experimental data can in principle be obtained using destructive, nondestructive or proof tests, but destructive tests have been used much more widely. Data from non-destructive or proof tests may be "censored" because the measurement of the times taken to reach the endpoint was terminated after the median time but before all samples reached the endpoint.

While the thermal classification of an EIM is not directly related to the thermal classification of an electrical insulation system (EIS), the thermal classification of an EIS follows the same concepts presented in this part of the 60216 series. The calculation procedures of this standard apply to determining the thermal class of an EIS where thermal stress is the dominant aging factor.
