When IEC EN 60512-9-2 requires detail specification, this part of IEC EN 60512 is used for testing connectors under technical committee 48. It can also be used for similar devices when specified in a detail specification. The purpose of this standard is to detail a standard test method for assessing a connector's ability to withstand electrical load and high temperatures.
The sample should be suitably equipped with temperature sensing device(s) with dimensions specified in the detail specification, and wired and mounted according to the detail specification.
The sample shall be subjected to a temperature endurance test with an electrical charge in accordance with the requirements of the detail specification. At the beginning of the test and again at the end of the test, the insulation resistance at high temperature should be measured according to IEC EN 60512-3-1, test 3a and should not be less than the value specified in the detail specification.
If the temperature rise due to the specified maximum current passing through the sample does not cause the sample to reach the specified maximum operating temperature, the chamber temperature should be increased until the specified maximum operating temperature of the sample is reached. At the end of the exposure period, the sample should be allowed to cool under standard atmospheric conditions for the time specified in the detail specification.
