Luminaires not designed for continuous operation must bear an indication of maximum rated run time or, if required, maximum rated run and minimum rated no-load, on the luminaire or on a label affixed to the supply cable supplied with the luminaire.
A light fixture containing halogen lamps other than low pressure tungsten halogen lamps should be fitted with a safety screen to protect against the effects of a shattered lamp.
Each of the two lamps is prepared for testing by making an incision in the wall of the bulb. After 5 minutes of operation, each of the lamps is destroyed by hitting the incision site through a hole made for this purpose in the luminaire. The hot parts of the broken lamps should not ignite a cotton gauze consisting of five layers spread horizontally 500 mm below the test specimen.
