The purpose of this part of IEC EN 60603 is to establish uniform specifications, type-testing requirements and quality assessment procedures for connectors for use with printed boards, and to establish guidelines for the preparation of detailed specifications for connectors of evaluated quality.
In case of conflict between this generic specification and the detail specification, the requirements of the detail specification shall prevail.
Permissible operating voltages depend on the application and applicable or specified safety requirements. For this reason, the leakage and gap distances and proof voltages under the specified air pressure will be specified in the detail specification.
For connectors of quality rated at a specific performance level, a number will be used to indicate the performance level and a letter will be used to indicate the rating level. The number and letter must be included in this sequence as the last characters of the type designation.
