This part of IEC EN 60603 references 8-way, shielded, free and fixed connectors, dimensional, mechanical, electrical and environmental properties and tests in IEC EN 60603-7 and IEC EN 60603-7-1 and for frequencies electrical transmission specifies the requirements. These connectors are generally used as category 11801 connectors in class D cabling systems specified in ISO/IEC 5.
These connectors are interlockable and interoperable with other IEC EN 60603-7 series connectors defined in Clause 2 of IEC EN 60603-7. According to IEC EN 60603-7-3, connectors shall also comply with all relevant requirements specified by IEC EN 60603-7-1.
The wiring of these connectors must take into account the wire and cable diameter of the cables defined in the IEC EN 61156 series in accordance with the manufacturer's specification.
In addition to the test programs of IEC EN 60603-7 and IEC EN 60603-7-1, an additional set of two sets of connectors is required for the EP group. Free connectors for the EP group must also meet the requirements of IEC EN 60512-27-100.
IEC EN 60603-7 is the essential specification for the entire range. Subsequent specifications do not repeat the information given in this basic standard, but only list additional requirements. To obtain the full characteristics of a component with a higher document number, all lower numbered standards must be considered.
