An environment can be composed of a number of environmental conditions such as dynamic, climatic and biological and other effects resulting from chemically and mechanically active substances. Only dynamic and climatic conditions are considered in this report.
The purpose of this whitepaper is to provide guidance to the specification author with a set of easy-to-use tables that relate and transform these conditions.
It is important to highlight the indicative nature of this report, as it is almost impossible to specify mandatory requirements for worldwide use. However, where tests different from those recommended in this report are required, the guidance provided should establish principles and methodology for identifying alternative tests.
Correlation reasons are provided to enable specification authors to modify a test if their implementation warrants it. When there are differences in parameter values between IEC EN 60721-3-2 and IEC EN 60068-2, the closest severity ratings of the IEC EN 60068-2 test procedures are used. If it is necessary to deviate from an IEC EN 60068-2 severity, the reasons are detailed in the report and an alternative test is recommended in the tables.
IEC EN 60721-3-2 specifies the classes of environmental parameter groups together with the relevant environmental conditions to which products may be exposed during transport. Parameters in these classes are given separately, but products may be exposed to them simultaneously. Some of the parameters are independent while others may be strongly related, for example; solar radiation and temperature.
