IEC EN 60745-2-23 applies to die grinders and small rotary tools for mounted accessories not exceeding 55 mm in diameter and mounted sanding accessories not exceeding 80 mm in diameter; Unsupported shoulder flange, mandrel-mounted wheels and rotary files, whose rated speed does not exceed a peripheral speed of 80 m/s at the rated capacity of the accessory. This part 2 will be used in conjunction with the latest edition and amendments of IEC EN 60745-1.

Kickback is a sudden response to a spinning wheel, sanding band, brush, or any other accessory that gets stuck or stuck. Jamming or tripping will cause the rotating accessory to come to a rapid stop, forcing the uncontrolled power tool in the opposite direction of rotation of the accessory.

For example, if an abrasive wheel is caught or pinched by the workpiece, the edge of the disc that enters the pinch point can get stuck in the surface of the material, causing the disc to pop or fly off. The wheel may jump towards or away from the operator, depending on the direction of movement of the wheel at the pinch point. Abrasive discs can also break under these conditions.

Instruments designed to be operated at multiple speeds must be marked with clearly identifiable symbols for each of the speed settings, clearly indicating which speed corresponds to each setting in conjunction with the instruction manual.

Compliance is checked by inspection and measuring speed after the tool has been operated for a period of 5 minutes. The recommended accessory that produces the maximum speed will be fitted. If the tool is equipped with load-sensing speed control, it is not necessary to install an accessory to load the tool to find the maximum speed.

Shafts shall be designed to enable or assist in securing and moving accessories designed for the tool. The orientation of the shaft threads, or the design of an equivalent safety device, should be such that any clamping device, collet, chuck or threaded-hole wheel tends to tighten during operation.

Threaded spindles intended for direct mounting of wheels with threaded holes should be designed with free flange shoulders to prevent the spindle from bottoming out in the threaded hole of the wheel.
