IEC EN 60793-1-41 Optical Fibers - Test for Bandwidth

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60793-1-41 testing. This standard describes three methods for determining and measuring the modal bandwidth of multimode optical fibers.

IEC EN 60793-1-41 Optical Fibers - Test for Bandwidth

The baseband frequency response is measured directly in the frequency domain by determining the fiber response to a sinusoidally modulated light source.

The baseband response can also be measured by observing the broadening of a narrow light pulse. The calculated response is determined using differential mode delay (DMD) data.

The three methods are:

  • Time domain (impact distortion) measurement
  • Frequency domain measurement
  • Overcharged initialization modal bandwidth calculated from differential mode delay (OMBc).

The main change over the previous edition is the addition of a third method to determine modal bandwidth based on DMD data and improve measurement procedures for A4 fibers. This standard should be read in conjunction with IEC 60793-1-1 and IEC 60793-1-2, which cover general specifications.
