This part of the IEC EN 60917 series applies to a frame-based cabinet structure with specification of interface dimensions for installation of various equipment. The frame structure provides mounting points for mounting interior and exterior accessories on mounting planes. Unlike the current IEC EN 60917-2-1 and IEC EN 60297-3-100 standards, this standard allows cover parts such as top covers and front/rear doors to exceed the outer coordination dimensions of the cabinet.
Standards IEC EN 60297-3-100 and IEC EN 60917-2-1 for electronic cabinets were created for the systematically defined external dimensions and internal mounting dimensions of sub-racks and chassis, which are considered the most common mechanical designs of electronic equipment.
Also, there are no definitions in either standard for the interface sizes of various other equipment. As far as such equipment is for lower racks or chassis, it is not basically designed for standard mounting dimensions. Installation of such non-standard equipment in cabinets was done with support racks or special mounting devices.
It seems useful to establish a standard for modular cabinets with the definition of interface mounting planes and mounting points for various devices mounted internally and externally.
The mounting points of a cabinet are, by definition, on the mounting planes of the cabinet frame structure. Mounting points indicate the location of mounting holes for attaching internal and external equipment or accessories.
The modular frame type cabinet structure consists of horizontal, vertical and depth members. These structural parts provide mounting planes with mounting points for internal and external equipment/accessories.
