The recognized cable type is intended for use in the workplace wiring of shielded ducts with a nominal length of 40 m. Cables covered by this standard are intended to operate with voltages and currents normally encountered in communication systems.

These cables are not intended for use with low impedance sources, eg electrical power sources of the public mains, eg. The electrical power supplies of utility grids are designed to be used to support the provision of low voltage remote powering applications.

This standard provides a blank detail specification (BDS) that can be used to summarize the design and performance requirements agreed between the supplier and the user of a particular cable type.
