IEC EN 61243-2 Voltage Detectors - Standard Test for Resistive Type to be Used for AC Voltages

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61243-2 testing. Applicable to portable voltage detectors with or without internal power supply to be used in electrical systems for voltages from 1 kV to 36 kV ac and frequencies from 15 Hz to 60 Hz.

IEC EN 61243-2 Voltage Detectors - Standard Test for Resistive Type to be Used for AC Voltages

This section applies only to resistive voltage detectors used in contact with the part to be tested, either as a single unit or as a separate device, complete with an adaptable insulating post covered in IEC EN 60855 or IEC EN 61235. Capacitive voltage detectors are covered by IEC EN 61243-1.

The detector must be designed and manufactured in such a way that it does not pose any danger to the user, provided that it is used safely in accordance with the operating methods and the instructions for use.

The detector should give an indisputable indication of "voltage on" or "no voltage" states through the change of signal state. The indicator must be visual or audible.

The detector must unequivocally indicate the presence or absence of a service voltage of the network, taking into account the rated voltage or rated voltage range and the rated frequency or rated frequency range.

The indicator must be clearly visible to the user in the operating position and under normal light conditions. When using two signals, the indicator should not rely solely on the detectability of different colored lights. Additional features such as physical separation of light sources, different shapes of light signals or flashing light should be used.

Whether built-in or a separate part, the tester must be able to test all electrical circuits, including the resistive element, the energy source, and the operation of the indicator. When not all circuits can be tested, any limitations should be clearly stated in the operating instructions and these circuits should be built with high reliability. When there is a built-in test element, the detector should give a "ready" or "not ready" indication.
