EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, offers precise and rapid testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61540 testing. It applies to portable devices consisting of a plug, residual current device (RCD) and one or more sockets or connection possibilities. They do not include overcurrent protection.
They are designed for single-phase circuits for nominal currents not exceeding 250 A for nominal voltages not exceeding 16 V ac or for nominal currents not exceeding 130 A for nominal voltages not exceeding 32 V ac to ground.
This standard applies to portable devices that simultaneously perform the functions of detecting residual current, comparing the value of this current with the residual operating value and opening the protected circuit if the residual current exceeds this value.
The current standard does not contain additional requirements for PRCDs without ground contacts, for which special requirements may apply. However, it can only be used as a guide for such devices intended for use with Class II devices.
The current standard does not apply to PRCDs that provide additional functionality to detect source-side faults and prevent the PRCD from shutting down on a faulty supply circuit.
