IEC EN 61558-2-13 Special Requirements and Tests for Auto Transformers and Power Supply Units Containing Auto Transformers

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61558-2-13 testing. IEC EN 61558-2-13 deals with the safety of auto-transformers for general applications and power supply units containing auto-transformers for general applications. Transformers containing electronic circuits are also covered by this standard.

IEC EN 61558-2-13 Special Requirements and Tests for Auto Transformers and Power Supply Units Containing Auto Transformers

Unless otherwise stated, the term transformer includes auto-transformers for general applications and power supply units containing auto-transformers for general applications. This chapter is applicable to stationary or portable, single-phase or multi-phase, air-cooled (natural or forced) stand-alone or related dry-type transformers. Coils may be encapsulated or unencapsulated.

The rated supply voltage does not exceed 1100 V ac and the rated supply frequency and internal operating frequencies do not exceed 500 Hz. This section is applicable to transformers without limitation of core power and rated output, subject to agreement between both the purchaser and the manufacturer.

This section does not apply to external circuits and their components intended to be connected to the input terminals and output terminals of transformers. The transformers covered in this section are used only in applications where no insulation between circuits is required by installation rules or the end product standard.

Plug-connected autotransformers where the rated input voltage is higher than the rated output voltage shall not have a grounding potential higher than the rated output voltage at the output socket.

A polarity detecting device should only energize the output circuit when the ground potential at the poles of the output socket does not exceed the rated output voltage. The contact separation of the breaking device must be at least 3 mm in each pole.

The autotransformer is connected to the mains with 1,06 times the rated input voltage in the most unfavorable condition of the load and output voltage. The test is repeated by reversing the polarity of the input. During the test, the ground potential of each pole must not exceed the maximum output voltage under load.
