IEC EN 61869-6 is a product family standard and covers only additional general requirements for low-power instrument transformers (LPIT) used for AC applications with nominal frequencies from 15 Hz to 100 Hz, covering MV, HV and EHV.
This part of IEC EN 61869 does not cover the specification for the digital output format of instrument transformers. This part of IEC EN 61869 defines errors in the case of analog or digital output. Other features of the digital interface for instrument transformers are standardized in IEC EN 61850-61869 as an implementation of the IEC EN 9 series of standards detailing layered substation communications architecture. This part of IEC EN 61869 addresses additional requirements regarding bandwidth.
Vibrations may occur due to switching gear operation or short circuit force. Vibrations arising from causes external to the LPIT (e.g. switching operations of circuit breakers, etc.) should be considered normal service conditions. Tests should be performed to prove proper operation of the LPIT when exposed to such events. Vibrations originating from the ground are considered special service conditions.
When used to transmit system or output connection, fiber optic cables shall comply with IEC 60794-2 for indoor applications and IEC 60794-3 for outdoor applications. The transmitter system and output connection cables must be protected against rodent attacks.
