This standard is applicable to two types of aluminium-magnesium-silicon alloy wires with different mechanical and electrical properties for the manufacture of stranded conductors for overhead power transmission. It specifies the mechanical and electrical properties of wires in the diameter range of 1,50 mm to 4,50 mm.
The surface of the wire must be smooth, free from cracks, holes, foreign matter, and other defects that may reduce its functional performance as an electrical conductor wire.
A sample of at least 10% of each length of wire shall be taken by the manufacturer for testing. In the case of large quantities of wire supplied and where the manufacturer has a proven ability to meet or exceed the requirements, by agreement of the purchaser and the manufacturer the number of test samples may be reduced to a level that ensures that each production run is guaranteed.
Failure of a test sample to comply with any of the requirements of this standard shall constitute grounds for rejection of the lot represented by the sample.
In the event of any such rejection of any batch, the manufacturer shall have the right to test all individual spools of wire in the batch only once and to submit those that meet the acceptance requirements. Only tests will be performed on the original sample that does not meet the acceptance requirements.
