It is primarily applicable to flexible insulating sleeves for insulating conductors and connectors of electrical apparatus. Some sheath types are also suitable for bonding, identification, environmental sealing and mechanical protection.
This standard does not apply to coated papers. Materials conforming to this specification meet specified performance levels. However, a user's choice of material for a particular application should be based not only on this specification but also on the actual requirements necessary for adequate performance in that application.
Adequate sleeves for the required tests will be selected to represent the entire consignment. Each size, type, grade or color in a delivery will be treated as a separate shipment unless otherwise agreed between buyer and supplier.
Cases should be supplied in natural or colored form. If two or more colors are used, each must occupy a sufficient surface area to be easily distinguishable in daylight. For colored sheaths, the color or colors of each sheath must correspond to one of the colors specified in IEC 60304.
The supplier is responsible for ensuring that all conduits in the same shipment party comply with the requirements given in IEC EN 60684-3 pages. If requested by the supplier, the tests to be applied to each shipment lot will be with the supplier, if third party approval is required, the supplier will agree to the necessary tests according to the authority responsible for approval.
