IEC EN 61439-1 Test for Low Voltage Switchgear and Controllers

This standard sets out general definitions and service conditions, construction requirements, technical specifications and verification requirements for low voltage switchgear and control equipment.

Throughout this document, the term assemblies is used for the low voltage switchgear and control gear assembly(s).

The requirements of the relevant part of the IEC 61439 series are applied in conjunction with the specified requirements of this document from Part 2, in order to determine the mounting conformity. r.

This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2011. It constitutes a technical revision.

This edition includes the following important technical changes from the previous edition:

• Clarification that power-to-electric converter systems, switched-mode power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies, and adjustable-speed power drive systems are tested to their specific product standards, but when included in assemblies, the assembly complies with the IEC 61439 series standards;
• Introducing a set of rated currents for circuits in a loaded assembly and refocusing the temperature rise verification on this new characteristic;
• Addition of DC related requirements;
• Introducing the concept of class I and class II apparatus for protection against electric shock.
