IEC EN 61439-5 Test for Low Voltage Switchgear and Controllers

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 61439-5 testing. This part of IEC EN 61439 defines specific requirements for public power grid distribution assemblies (PENDAs).

IEC EN 61439-5 Test for Low Voltage Switchgear and Controllers

PEDAs have the following criteria:

  • It is used for distribution of electrical energy in three-phase systems where the rated voltage does not exceed 1000 V AC;
  • Still;
  • Open assemblies are not covered by this standard;
  • It is suitable for installation where only qualified persons have access for their own use, however, outdoor types can be installed where ordinary persons have access;
  • For indoor or outdoor use.

The purpose of this standard is to specify definitions and conditions of service, construction requirements, specifications and tests for PENDAS. Network parameters may require testing at higher performance levels.

PEndas may also include control or signaling devices for the distribution of electrical energy. This standard applies to all PEDAs, whether designed, one-off or fully standardized and produced in quantity.

This standard applies to motor starters, fused switches, electronic equipment, etc., which comply with the relevant product standards. It does not apply to individual devices and self-contained components, such as

A PEDA-O shall be arranged for floor mounting, transformer mounting, pole mounting, surface wall mounting, or mounting in a recess in a wall, as agreed between the user and the manufacturer.

A PEDA can be directly connected to a transformer via a flange coupling or connected to its source via cables or busbars as agreed between the user and the manufacturer. Output circuits will be suitable for cable connection.

Outdoor enclosures shall be provided with a reliable locking device that prevents access by unauthorized persons. Doors, hatches and hatches are to be designed so that after locking they will not open due to subsequent moderate ground settlement or exposure to vibration from traffic or ground excavation and restoration work.
