This part of IEC EN 1797 specifies the main dimensions of coil formers for transformers and inductors, using a square lamination stack placed in coil formers. Major dimensions are dimensions that allow interchangeability in terms of conformity to core dimensions and mainline dimensions of the completed components.
Typical drawings and dimensions of coil formers are listed in this standard. The coil former design may not conform to the graphical representation shown in the figures, but the main dimensions with tolerances must be followed and intermediate flanges etc. other details can be arranged between the manufacturer and the user.
Body tolerances shall conform to ISO 286-1 unless specified as a maximum or minimum. Appropriate tolerances are shown at the top of each column in the dimension tables. The thickness of the flange must be at least 0,4 mm.
Relevant standards for trunk dimensions of transformers and inductors specify a range of stack heights that allow continuous variation of power ratings, although the IEC 852 series, square stack is preferred. If a different stack height is used for the core than the preferred square stack and one of the other specified stack heights is selected, the dimensions of the respective coilers in the stack height direction will differ from those given in the tables below.
