The Fiber Optic Shock Test evaluates the mechanical strength of fiber optic connectors by subjecting them to a series of shocks of increasing severity. The connectors are mounted on a test rig and subjected to a series of blows using a mechanical shock device.

The shock mount delivers a series of shocks to the connectors, with each shock larger than the previous one. The connectors are subjected to up to 0,5 shocks, each with a duration of 1.500 milliseconds and a peak acceleration of up to 100g.

After testing, the connectors are inspected for damage, including cracks, chips, or other types of physical damage. The Fiber Optic Shock Test aims to evaluate the ability of connectors to withstand mechanical shocks that may occur during installation or during normal use of fiber optic systems.
