ISO 10605 Electrostatic Discharge Immunity Test Standard

ISO 10605 specifies electrostatic discharge (ESD) test methods required to evaluate electronic modules for vehicle use. Applies to discharges in the following cases:

ESD in assembly;
ESD caused by service personnel;
ESD caused by passengers.
ESD applied to the device under test (DUT) can directly affect the DUT. ESD applied to neighboring parts can be connected to the supply and signal lines of the DUT in the vehicle and/or directly to the DUT.

ISO 10605 describes test procedures for evaluating both on-machine electronic modules and complete vehicles. It also describes a test procedure that classifies modules' ESD sensitivity for packaging and processing. ISO 10605 applies to all types of road vehicles, regardless of the propulsion system (eg spark ignition engine, diesel engine, electric motor).

ISO 10605 is partially based on IEC 61000-4-2 and describes vehicle-specific requirements.
ISO 10605 does not apply to pyrotechnic modules.

For example, the familiar electrostatic discharge caused by old charge accumulations while moving in or leaving a vehicle has gained greater importance with the increase of vehicle electronic modules. Tests simulating the electrostatic discharge of people, which are widely used in various industries, were examined and it was determined that they could not be fully applied in automotive.
As a result, tests suitable for the automotive environment were developed.
Tests that simulate electrostatic discharge (ESD) into a vehicle electrical system are based on the human ESD model. Sensitive electrical equipment can be adversely affected by connected or radiating energy.
This International Standard describes ESD tests applicable to both automotive electronic modules and vehicles.
