This standard applies to LED-based SSL products containing control electronics and heat sinks, ie devices that require only AC mains power or DC voltage power supply to operate. This standard does not cover products that require external operating circuits or additional external heat sinks. This document covers luminaires with integrated LED lamps as well as light sources.
This standard does not cover luminaires sold without a light source. The chromaticity requirement in this standard is for general indoor lighting applications and some outdoor applications where the chromaticity of white light is critical. For general outdoor lighting applications and many niche applications, a wider range of light chromaticities than the range specified in this standard is acceptable. This standard also does not cover SSL products for certain indoor applications that intentionally produce colored or colored light.
The standard specifies color tolerance limits for SSL products measured using the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) 1931 color space. In order for the light produced by these products to be of acceptable color quality, the color coordinates of SSL products must remain within the limits specified in the standard.
