This standard provides requirements for making repeatable photometric and colorimetric measurements on LED lamps, LED modules and LED luminaires (LED devices). It also makes recommendations for reporting data.
Availability of reliable and accurate photometric data for LED devices is a fundamental requirement for designing good lighting systems and evaluating the performance of products. By obtaining these data by measurements made under certain normalized measurement conditions, consistency of data between different laboratories (within the limits of declared measurement uncertainty) is possible and it is possible to compare different products on the same basis.
The standard specifies the requirements for measuring the electrical, photometric and colorimetric quantities of LED lamps, LED modules and LED luminaires for operation with AC or DC supply voltages, possibly in combination with the corresponding LED control gear. LED light engines are likened to LED modules and treated accordingly.
The photometric and colorimetric quantities covered in this standard include total luminous flux, luminous efficacy, partial luminous flux, luminous intensity distribution, center beam intensity, luminance and luminance distribution, chromaticity coordinates, associated color temperature (CCT), color rendering index (CRI).
This standard does not cover LED packages and products based on OLEDs (organic LEDs). In particular, the standard aims to cover measurement methods for testing the compliance of LED devices with the photometric and colorimetric requirements of the LED performance standards published by IEC/TC 34 “Lamps and related equipment”.
