EN 60811-505 Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables, Non-Metallic Materials, Part 505: Mechanical Tests

EUROLAB laboratory provides testing and compliance services within the scope of EN 60811-505 standard. IEC 60811-505 gives the procedure for performing low temperature elongation tests on extruded insulations and sheaths.

EN 60811-505 Electrical and Fiber Optic Cables, Non-Metallic Materials, Part 505: Mechanical Tests

IEC 60811-505 repeals and supersedes 60811 and 1 of the withdrawn IEC 4-8.3-8.4. There are no specific technical changes from the previous edition, but see the Preface to IEC 60811-100. This publication should be read in conjunction with IEC 60811-100.

The IEC 60811 series specifies test methods to be used to test non-metallic materials of all types of cables. These test methods are intended to be referenced in standards for cable construction and cable materials.

For insulation tests, the test is designed for insulated conductors of circular cross-section with an outer diameter greater than 12,5 mm and sector-shaped cores large enough to prepare dumbbells. Where it is not possible to prepare dumbbells, IEC 60811-504 describes a bending test suitable for testing the performance of smaller diameter cores.

After the entire coating (including the outer semiconductor layer, if any) has been removed, the insulation will be cut open in the axial direction, then the conductive and, if applicable, the inner semiconductor layer will be removed.
