This standard specifies the general requirements for 1 MHz burst immunity testing for protection equipment and measuring relays for power system protection, including control, monitoring and process interface equipment, where applicable and used with these systems.
The purpose of the tests is to verify that the equipment under test will operate correctly when energized and subjected to repetitive damped oscillatory waves caused by the closing or opening of circuit breakers or disconnectors in high voltage substations or power plants.
The requirements set out in this part of IEC EN 60255 apply to measuring relays and protection equipment in new condition and all tests mentioned are type tests only.
The purpose of this standard is to determine:
All auxiliary equipment used to provide normal operating signals to the EUT and to verify correct operation of the EUT must be disconnected so that the test voltage does not affect the auxiliary equipment. The length of the cables between the test generator and the coupling/decoupling mesh should be as short as possible. Test leads used between the EUT and the coupling/decoupling network shall not be longer than 2 m.
The time delay settings of the EUT will be set to their minimum practical value as defined in the intended application. The tests shall be carried out with auxiliary energizing amounts applied to suitable circuits equal to their rated values. The values of the entered energizing quantities must be both above and below the operating value, within twice the assigned error of the transition state.
