IEC EN 62271-302 High Voltage Switchgear and Controller - Part 302: Alternating Current Circuit Breakers with Intentionally Asynchronous Pole Operation

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 62271-302 testing. IEC EN 62271-302 provides guidance on the design, construction, specification and testing of circuit breakers with intentionally asynchronous polarity operation, which is excluded from the scope of IEC EN 62271-100. In all other respects the scope of this technical report is the same as IEC EN 62271-100.

IEC EN 62271-302 High Voltage Switchgear and Controller - Part 302: Alternating Current Circuit Breakers with Intentionally Asynchronous Pole Operation

Intentionally asynchronous direct actuation can be accomplished by mechanical or electrical means and both methods are covered by this white paper. Where the application is with purely electric vehicles, eg for independent pole operated circuit breakers, adequate measures should be taken in practice to prevent operation outside the proven capacity of the circuit breaker.

The basic requirements are the same in all cases, but the interpretation of test results depends on whether the intended controller is included in the test program.

For the purposes of this whitepaper, it is assumed that there is no significant interaction between the effects of various parameters (eg ambient temperature, control voltage, etc.) that are thought to affect the mechanical performance of the circuit breaker. This has not been proven for all combinations, but service experience with controlled switching shows that this assumption holds in practice for the most widely used drive technologies.

The rated operating window of a circuit breaker is the trip window that can be reliably obtained by a given circuit breaker for a given switching condition and during all specified service conditions and all specified drive and auxiliary supply conditions.

The rated generation window evaluated in this way is an indication of the best controlled switching performance that can be reliably obtained with the supplied circuit breaker. Service performance will also be affected by the performance of the associated control and balancing equipment.
