These types of LED lamps are designed to be replaced without requiring any internal changes to the luminaire. Existing fixtures fitted with double-covered LED lamps can be operated with an electromagnetic or electronic control device.
This standard does not cover double-headed alternating LED lamps that require modifications to the luminaire. Requirements in this standard are given for general lighting service (except, for example, explosive atmospheres). Additional requirements may apply for lamps for other applications.
Double-headed fluorescent lamps are installed in large volumes in office lighting, street lighting, industrial lighting and much more. Double-headed LED lamps are intended to be a possible replacement for G5 or G13-headed fluorescent lamps. This standard ensures that conversion from fluorescent lamp to LED lamp and back switch from LED lamp to fluorescent lamp is done with safe LED lamps and under specified replacement conditions.
The establishment of a safety standard for double-cap LED lamps does not exclude future displacement as part of IEC 60968, the inclusion of self-ballasted lamps (if reformed as an umbrella standard), as well as the inclusion of double-cap conversion type requirements.
This offer only covers double-headed LED lamps with G5 and G13 caps; here the fluorescent tube is replaced by a tubular LED lamp without any changes to the luminaire. Only in the electromagnetic control assembly the starter is replaced by an LED starter.
