IEC EN 60352-3 Solderless Connections - Part 3: Accessible Insulation Displacement (ID) Connections - General Requirements and Test Methods

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of IEC EN 60352-3 testing. This part of IEC EN 60352 applies to ID connections accessible for tests and measurements according to part 3 and made with:

IEC EN 60352-3 Solderless Connections - Part 3: Accessible Insulation Displacement (ID) Connections - General Requirements and Test Methods

  • Properly designed identity terminations;
  • Wires with solid round conductors with nominal diameter from 0,25 mm to 3,6 mm;
  • Wires with stranded conductors with a cross section of 0,05 mm² to 1 mm².

In addition to test procedures, information on materials and data from industrial experience are included to ensure electrically stable connections under anticipated environmental conditions.

There are different designs and materials for ID terminations in use. Therefore, the performance requirements of the cable and the entire connection are specified in full, while only the basic parameters of the termination are specified.

A solderless electrical connection made by inserting a single wire into a precisely controlled slot in the termination such that the edges of the slot will replace the insulation and deform the conductor of a solid wire or stranded wire to create a gas tight connection.

The insulation material will be PVC or any other material with properties suitable for insulation displacement, ie the insulation material will be such that it can be easily displaced by the inner edges of the beams without damaging the conductor. In the case of stranded conductors, the insulation must also be able to hold the wires in place so that they are not displaced unnecessarily while the ID connection is made.

Where terminations are designed to accept a range of conductor sizes, all loops except the last one will be executed with the specified maximum conductor sizes. The final cycle and final measurement will be made with the minimum conductor dimensions specified in the detail specification.
