EN 618 Continuous Conveying Equipment and Systems - Mechanical Handling of Bulk Materials Except Fixed Belt Conveyors - Safety and EMC Requirements for Equipment

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 618 testing. This standard specifies the technical requirements for minimizing the risks arising from hazards that may arise during the operation and maintenance of mechanical handling equipment designed for the continuous handling of bulk materials without loading.

EN 618 Continuous Conveying Equipment and Systems - Mechanical Handling of Bulk Materials Except Fixed Belt Conveyors - Safety and EMC Requirements for Equipment

In general, it also applies to equipment built into or connected to machines. This standard deals with technical requirements for EMC.

The standard does not apply to:

  • Continuous handling equipment and systems for opencast lignite mining;
  • Continuous handling equipment and systems for underground mining;
  • Tunneling and digging machines;
  • Bulk material processing or grading machines such as grinders, crushers, sieves;
  • Fixed belt conveyors for bulk materials. These are covered by the EN 620 standard;
  • Fixed pneumatic conveying equipment. These equipment and systems are covered by the EN 741 standard;
  • The interface between the machines discussed in this standard and the fixed belt or pneumatic conveyor.

This standard does not provide additional requirements for:

  • For use in public areas or for the transport of people;
  • Floating, dredging and ship-mounted equipment;
  • Conveyors that require a high level of cleanliness for hygiene reasons, eg in direct contact with foodstuffs or medicines;
  • transportation of equipment;
  • Dangers due to vibration;
  • Use at ambient air temperature below -20°C and above +40°C;
  • Effects of wind on strength and stability;
  • Hazards arising from the handling of certain hazardous materials (eg explosives, emitted material);
  • Hazards from contact or inhalation of harmful liquids, gases, mists, fumes and dusts;
  • Biological and micro-biological (viral or bacterial) hazards;
  • Hazards from heat radiation from materials handled;
  • Hazards caused by operation in electromagnetic fields outside the range of EN 61000-6-2;
  • Hazards arising from operation subject to special regulations (eg explosive atmospheres);
  • Dangers from noise;
  • Hazards from the use of ionizing radiation sources (eg measuring equipment);
  • Hazards caused by hydraulic equipment;
  • Hazards caused by insufficient lighting of control cabinets;
  • The risk associated with upgrading control stations;
  • Hazards associated with contact with or inhalation of harmful liquids, gases, mists, fumes and dusts.

Safety requirements apply to equipment and systems placed on the market after the publication of this standard.
