CISPR 16-2-2 Specification for Radio Interference and Immunity Measurement Apparatus and Methods - Part 2-2: Methods for Measuring Disturbances and Immunity - Measuring Distortion Strength

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of CISPR 16-2-2 testing. CISPR 16-2-2 specifies methods for measuring distortion power using an absorber clamp in the frequency range 30 MHz to 1 MHz.

This article describes the classification of different types of disturbances and suitable detectors for their measurement. This subclause describes the connection of measuring equipment, measuring receivers and auxiliary equipment.

The connecting cable between the measurement receiver and the auxiliary equipment (absorber clamp) must be shielded and its characteristic impedance must match the input impedance of the measurement receiver.

The measurement signal-to-noise ratio with respect to ambient noise must meet the following requirements. If the ambient noise level exceeds the required level, it will be recorded in the test report.

A test site should allow emissions from the EUT to be distinguished from ambient noise. The ambient noise level should preferably be 20 dB, but at least 6 dB below the desired measurement level. For the 6 dB condition, the apparent distortion level from the EUT is increased up to 3,5 dB. The suitability of the site to the required ambient level can be determined by measuring the ambient noise level when the test unit is in place but not operating.

In the case of a compliance measurement against a limit, the ambient noise level is allowed to exceed the preferred level of –6 dB, provided that both the ambient noise level and the source dispersion level together do not exceed the specified limit. The EUT is then considered to meet the limit. Other measures can also be taken; for example, reducing bandwidth for narrowband signals.
