CISPR 29, a technical report, describes algorithms used for objective picture evaluation in immunity tests of analog and digital TV broadcast receivers and related equipment.
The objective picture evaluation method described in this appendix uses the same interference mechanism and is based on the same desired signal definition as specified in CISPR 35 for subjective picture evaluation. Therefore, objective image evaluation provides an alternative to the subjective method and offers the advantage of direct correlation to the subjective method.
The saved test image is digitized and deviations from a stored reference image are determined by the image evaluation algorithms described below. An alternative methodology calculates the deviation from certain features determined on both the reference image and the image to be evaluated.
To evaluate picture distortion, which is represented as a series of lines, in the simplest case an average signal value is generated for a defined area. The deviation of the average signal value of this area from a determined reference value from an undistorted image serves as a criterion for the presence of image degradation.
For image evaluation according to this method, the color bar pattern used for testing is first converted to a suitable color space, preferably gray. A rectangular section is taken from each color bar, where a rectangular test window is positioned. The test window is divided into column sections.
