EN 13309 Construction Machinery - Test for Electromagnetic Compatibility of Machines with Internal Power Supply

EUROLAB, with its state-of-the-art accredited laboratories and expert team, provides precise and fast testing services within the scope of EN 13309 testing. This European standard provides test methods and acceptance criteria for the evaluation of electromagnetic compatibility of construction machinery in relation to the free trade of goods in the European Union. It deals with functional EMC requirements under typical EMC environmental conditions.

This European Standard does not deal with safety requirements. Electrical or electronic components or separate technical units intended for installation in construction machinery are also covered in this European Standard.

The following electromagnetic disturbance events are evaluated:

  • Wideband and narrowband electromagnetic interference;
  • Electromagnetic field immunity test;
  • Broadband and narrowband interference of electrical/electronic subassemblies;
  • Electromagnetic field immunity testing of electrical/electronic subassemblies;
  • Electrostatic discharge;
  • Executed transitions.

Construction machinery can have DC or AC internal electrical power supply systems. Machines designed to be fed by the "General Network" are specifically excluded.

Electrical and high-frequency disturbances occur during the normal operation of many parts of construction equipment devices and systems. They are produced in a wide frequency range with different electrical properties and can be transferred to other electrical/electronic devices and systems of construction machinery by transmission or radiation. Narrowband signals produced by interference sources inside or outside of construction machinery can also be combined in electrical/electronic systems where they can affect the normal function of electrical/electronic devices.

Electrostatic discharges are relevant to construction machinery because control elements can be placed outside the operator's station and potential differences may arise at the contact points. Since construction machines often represent open systems, and several devices or components of construction equipment are interconnected, transmitted transients in power supply cables must be considered.
